About

I am a retired teacher.  I have taught third grade for 16 years and was a teacher and director of a local preschool for 11 years.  I have my master’s degree in  classroom teaching from Saginaw Valley State University.  I am married and we are the proud parents of two grown children.

While our children were small, I was a stay at home mom. Both my husband and I were very involved in our children’s education from volunteering at school to helping with homework.  I believe that parents are a child’s best and most important teacher.

Which leads me to the purpose of this blog:  to pass on what I have learned as a teacher and parent to other parents of lower elementary children.  My goal is that parents would take an active role in the education of their children and by doing so help their child reach his full potential.

This blog will give you some ideas.  I also would love to hear any ideas that you may have.

    Mrs Thorp,
My name is Rachel Callahan and I am a student at the University of South Alabama. I am majoring in elementary education and am taking a computer class as required by my major. An assignment that I have for the class is to have a conversation with a teacher and or student about technology and how it can and should be used to further good educational practices. I found your blog while doing an assignment for my computer class and was hoping to enter into a conversation with you about how you feel about technology in schools. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.
